Holland Windmill

Windmill Week would not be complete without some pictures of the old windmills in Holland. This picture shows several windmills in Holland. I got to visit the Netherlands a few years ago. As you were flying in, the countryside was large strips of very bright colors. From the air, the tulip farms showed up as very bright fields. When I was there, you could see many of these old windmills still operating.

  1. What a lot of people don't realize is that a lot of Holland is below sea level and they need those windmills to constantly pump the water out of the lower lands.

A lot of those windmills really don't have pumps, but great big water screws in a trough that lifts the water to a higher level so it can run back into the ocean.

  2. That's why it's important for the "Little Dutch Boy" to keep his finger in the dike.

  3. Un paisaje muy bello!! Hace unos años conocí un pequeño pueblo holandés, lindo como en esta imagen.

    Saludos! Joe

  4. Can any one translate what Arte Joe said?

  5. Arte Joe said: "A beautiful landscape. Some years ago I visited to a little Holland village, as pretty as in this picture"
