Bearded Man

We continue to review Men's Facial Hair Styles with this picture from the 1910's. This is an interesting style not seen much today. Notice the upturned mustache. Then we have a little bit of a beard on the chin, but with the mustache and beard not connected. He is definitely going for some sort of look, I am just not sure what it is. I believe by profession he was the US ambassador to Haiti.

Did I mention that I have a great Mystery Person lined up for Saturday? Be sure to tune in because I want everyone to see me defeat Nate Maas. Also, I know that the Date Contest for Captain Walsh is running neck and neck between Bachelorettes #2 and #3. Be sure to vote. Also, I see that the polling is about evenly split between people marrying someone just like themselves vs. someone opposite. Mrs. PJM and I are complete opposites, which means I guess, between us we make one complete person.

  2. I agree. Not sure what look he's aiming for but I think the word we today would use is "STRANGE". PJM I haven't commented before but I love your site! I look religiously!

  3. Yipers! How very unfortunate that he chose this odd style because otherwise he was quite the attractive fella... looks like he has beautifully curly hair too. I have to add that I absolutely adore his suit! Just beautiful.

  4. He looks great from the neck down...that facial hair looks really silly.

  5. PJM;

    My money is on Nate.....

(perhaps this would be a good subject for a polling question)

    Merry Christmas to all

  6. This is a facial hair disaster. Didn't this guy ever hear of the saying "less is more?"

Too busy. Nice haircut, but the rest looks like he doesn't have any mirrors.

    WAY too busy.

  8. Hmmm.

The question leaves little doubt as to it's author's feelings on the matter.....

  9. Ross,
Are you suggesting my polling is biased and unscientific????

What other way could I possibly have asked it?

  11. I am wondering if the look this man was going for was "My chin is too pointy for easy shaving."

Kind of like letting the boggy section of field grow out. Or maybe not.

BTW, is that a pince-nez perched on his nose?

  13. Perhaps he plans to harvest the chin hair in anticipation of developing male pattern baldness a few years down the road.

  14. If he was the ambassador to Haiti, maybe that was his "tropical beard". ;-)

  15. Hello! I found your site by accident looking for photos of children at Christmas. It took me to your photo last year. I used the photo and some of text on my blog and gave the credit to you with a link to your blog. I hope that is alright? My chidren and I will be using your site as part of our history education! Thank you so much for your work and in put we enjoy it very much.

  16. No, I think you are above ward politics and polling...

You're just using psychology to try and keep Nate off of his game.

    Good Luck..

  17. Okay, so I was out of town for a couple days, taking a Christmas vacation with the family. While I'm up in the mountains, suddenly the phone rings. Could it be an emergency? No, just a relative saying, "You need to get to a computer right away. Have you seen the OPD Blog?!?" Of course I hadn't - but now I have. Well, well, well. Seems as though someone has been busy on the blog. First let, me say and I know I'm late, the Man with Beard's hat photographed wonderfully. Yes, he looks sinister, but in a professional way. The Bearded man from today was a bit of a disappointment, but I think it was the lack of fine head covering. Today's guy looks like a misplaced Eastern European professor of music.

Now, PJM, regarding the cheating comment in your poll. I think you may be overlooking the fact that there is more than just myself arrayed against you. Might I mention some of the other Mystery Person All-Stars: Rob from Amersfoort, Heather, Ray UK, Jim Smith, Ross from Maine, William, Gina, Reb, Jeff, Marie, and Pope George Ringo. Fine sleuthers one and all!

  18. This guy looks like either a con man or a nutty inventor - I can't decide which.

  19. Well these days, without the mustache, that dew patch would be very popular in college. It is possible that his chin is weak and he's hiding that. There is a great article from a gentlemen's magazine called "How to wear the beard" and it's all about accentuating or hiding things. I'll see if I can find the link.
