Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

Beautiful old photo.I just wonder if she was consider fat in those times.
ReplyDeleteNo she was considered healthy. People were going hungry in parts of the U.S. at that time, so being thin didn't have the same meaning it does today.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a very comfortable suit.
ReplyDeleteThis is more like ladies bathing suit week. How about some men?
ReplyDeleteInteresting.. she looks so young and deep in thought. I wonder what it was that she was thinking about that day... why she didn't look directly at the camera, or why she didn't smile...
ReplyDeleteHer bathing suit looks like she is on a swim team. Just a guess but perhaps she is watching a swim meet...
ReplyDeleteHeather:
ReplyDeleteI agree. She is either on a swim team or maybe a lifeguard.
And she doesn't look too happy. I agree that she looks healthy. More people should look that way and not worry about it.
But, I have to say . . .. if she blew the whistle and told me to come out of the water, I wouldn't want to make her angry.
Great photo, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Yvi
She probably was a lot healthier because the food she ate wasn't filled with a lot of added chemicals like today. When I was a kid, food tasted much better than today. We had vegetables from the garden. Milk from our own cow & eggs from our chickens. We raised our chickens and hogs, so we knew where our meat came from.
ReplyDeleteI agree the lady is simply watching at a swim meet - there is no undercurrent of meaning.
ReplyDeleteAnon, Since most people do not live in a place where they can raise and slaughter their own animals, or raise their own produce fertilised with their animal's manure, it's all kind of moot isn't it? If a person buys all their food from an ordinary supermarket (with a minimum of processed foodstuffs) then cooks from scratch -which is neither difficult nor time consuming with our modern kitchen tools, then folks would be healthier. Sure it tastes better if you raise it yourself, but those days are gone for most people. Not many people are willing to learn how to kill and dress a chicken.
Why is it when I'm awake EARLY on Saturday mornings, the MP is not?? The day I win the lottery will also be the day I don't play :-)

Christy O,
ReplyDeleteBut it gives us a chance to have a cup of coffee and catch up on the pictures of the week. That was funny about the lottery!
