World War I Tank

This picture was taken in 1918, and it shows a World War I tank. The tank was being used in Washington DC as part of a Liberty Bond Parade. The people in the photo are not identified, but to me, the man in the center almost looks like it could be Woodrow Wilson. What do you think?

  6. Sorry to refer to last week's topic, but a couple people said "The South will rise again."
Just what do you visualize? Secession? Prosperity? Seems to me people are too fond of federal funding to give it by seceding. The south is pretty prosperous now. More people now a days want to move from the north to the south than vice versa. So just what is going to rise again?

  7. It's a little difficult to see the guy with Wilson, but comparing this photo and a photo on Wikipedia, it could be Thomas R. Marshall, the Vice President.

  10. Being as today is Armistice Day, these photos are particularly appropriate for this week. Did you plan it? I looked into the history of Veteran's Day and found the meaning for "eleventh hour" too. The armistice went into effect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. It was the last serious effort to bring the war to an end, and succeeded. That is why November 11th started as Armistice Day and evolved into Veteran's Day.

Thanks to all of you who have served and to those who supported those who served!!!

  14. I showed up as Anon, too when I said it was Woodrow Wilson.

I never know what my browser is going to do.

Re "The South Will Rise Again," it's the principles that will rise - State's Rights, taxes, and limiting the control of the Federal Government.

We are rapidly turning into the United Socialist States of America.

Who knows - I think a group is going to secede, at least in theory, it's sort of happening already.

  15. SmartGirl, thanks for the explanation. I support the definition but would not use that phrase myself because it brings up thoughts of the misery of the war between the states, not just the root causes.
However, I'm all for restoration of the US Constitution in all it's original glory.

  16. Definitely Wilson.

  18. I am definitely tired of the right wing "United Socialist States of America" crap. The biggest socialist program in America is the Public School System and that was started by Thomas Jefferson. Trying to say there is something new under the sun just does not fly when it come to the whole Socialism argument.

  19. I agree with Anon about "United Socialist States of America" cliché. Unfortunately, BOTH sides have too many labels and over simplified talking points which bog down discussion and create arguments. Too many knee jerk reactions, not enough thought. NO SIDE is immune from this.
