Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

Is it former Idaho Gov. Frank Steunenberb?
ReplyDeleteMark,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the contest.
Ha! your entry is WRONG.
PJM
Lorenzo Crounse
ReplyDeleteJudi,
ReplyDeleteNot correct.
PJM
It looks like a relative to Robert Gibbs ;)
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteThat is funny. No relation, as far as I know, though.
PJM

PJM
It was a stretch. And I would have followed up with a "Where did you find this one?!" I think I've studied posted pictures of him so closely, trying to figure it out, that one just began to look like him.
ReplyDeleteTequila Sheila,
ReplyDeleteYou are not correct.
PJM
Maybe William Jennings Bryant as a young man?
ReplyDeleteMerideth,
ReplyDeleteNope, not correct.

My 17 year old son is helping today. He wanted to know why there was no subject for a lead to research. I told him it was a contest.
ReplyDeleteHe's still helping but he is confused. *lol*
Edward Creighton?
ReplyDeleteMerideth has submitted another incorrect entry.

Ah ha! First time submitting a guess ever, and I know it is right!
ReplyDeleteThis is Frank Welch, who was a member of the US House of Representatives from Nebraska in 1877.
Took a while, but I found it!
Gerald,
ReplyDeleteNEWS FLASH! We have a winner. Indeed your entry was correct.
Congratulations.
PJM
Thanks! I took a guess that since there was a Nebraska theme this week, it was someone important from Nebraska. Checked Govs and Senators up to 1900 - no luck. Next came the Reps, and he turned up quickly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun search!
Good job Gerald! You robbed PJM of another win!
ReplyDeleteI love it when they're cocky
ReplyDeleteI really liked the Nebraska theme this week PJM. Can't wait to see what's up for next week.
ReplyDeleteGerald,
ReplyDeleteVery congrats!!
Saved us all from Mr. PJM's arrogance ;)
(Whew, we gain another week.)
Thanks everyone! I discovered the site about 4 days ago and was looking forward to the puzzle this week so I could try my hand at it.
ReplyDeleteI ALMOST didn't get a chance though! Judi's guess this morning (Lorenzo Crounse) was very close. Mr. Crounse was the Representative in that seat before Mr. Welch.
Looking forward to more old photos. This is fun!
Way to go Gerald!
ReplyDeletePJM it looks like you have Gerald and Nate Maas to try and beat now.
