Greatest Mystery Person Contest Ever
OK, this is going to be the greatest Mystery Contest ever. Today, you have to tell me who this lady is, and what crime she had committed and been arrested for.
Is it: 1866 Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Dr. Mary Walker. The first woman to serve with the Army Medical Corps as a doctor. She was also a postwar feminist and cross-dresser (for which she was often arrested)?
Hmmm . . . notice Heather mentioned the apple butter, but forgot to ask me for my mailing address. I wonder if it was just an oversignt, or if once again, I am not on her Jar of Apple Butter mailing list. PJM
Is it the writer and a renowned lecturer on anarchist philosophy, women's rights, and social issues Emma Goldman who was sentenced to two years in jail for conspiring to "induce persons not to register" for the 1917 draft.
Mary Harris Jones who was convicted, along with other union organizers, of conspiring to commit murder after organizing the "Children's Crusade" against child labor.
This is Annie Edison Taylor. On October 24, 1901, she became the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel - and was arrested for doing it. By the way, October 24 was also her birthday.
Heather, I hope you are right! That was going to be my guess. I've spent some time looking for this one. I was thinking the car in the background might be important. I found info that the first female speeder was arrested and fined $1, but no name and this lady seems a little old for speeding.
Sorry for the late entry. Could this be the infamous Milton Matson (engaged to Ellen Fairweather) who was arrested in San Francisco for passing a bad check in Los Gatos, California, and later discovered to be a woman while serving time in a the San Jose County men's penitentiary?

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother with this contest.
PJM

ReplyDeletePJM
Did the crime have something to do with all the animals she's wearing around her neck?
ReplyDeleteRules require that I give no hints.
ReplyDeletePJM

ReplyDeleteAnyway, hope you are right!
Heather,
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a wild entry, but still not correct.

ReplyDeletePJM,
ReplyDeleteTo do this noble woman a service, why not post this http://www.leearchive.info/rel/images/mary.jpg
Hard to believe from the 1913 picture, but she was quite lovely without as well as within at one time.
PJM,
ReplyDeletePS - Did you know today, Oct 27th, is Theodore Roosevelt's 151st birthday?
Why not a bully picture of him to boot?
