OK, Nate put a quick end to my hopes of stumping everyone two weeks in a row. So, we will have a special edition round two.

Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!

About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

Hmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteIs it Benjamin Harrison?
ReplyDeleteSouthernbets,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the contest. Your entry is not correct.
PJM
I'll guess Frederick Dent Grant.
ReplyDeleteDarn! The evil Nate Maas has defeated me yet again this morning. Yes indeed, this is F. D. Grant, son of Ulysses S. Grant.
ReplyDeleteGood job!
PJM
Fun game. Thanks, PJM. After last week's humiliation, I had to bring my A-game.
ReplyDeleteWell done Nate...great A-game.
ReplyDeleteLife being what it is, one dreams of revenge.
Paul Gauguin.
There is only one possible answer: The correct one! And the correct answer is Confederate major General Sterling Price!
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteNo, Nate was right, F. D. Grant.
PJM
Wow, Nate must have eaten razor blades for breakfast. I know, I know... not funny nor clever, but I do know the man is sharp! I like it when you stump people, PJM, cause I have a chance to do a little sleuthing. Of course if I got up in a timely manner on Saturday mornings, I could still guess before the game is over... unless Nate is playing!
ReplyDeleteRay and Donna, thanks for the kind words. Donna, just so you're aware, I will be up in the hills next Saturday with my Boy Scouts, so you'll have to defeat PJM without me.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about what FD Grant is wearing. Is it his father's coat? In the photo he looks to be in his 50s, so this picture would be around 1890, I'd guess. Was that type of uniform coat still in use at that time?
