Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

I notice that all the prisoners are black. Is that part of the theme? Or the only pictures you have? Makes me wonder if that's the only kind of convict the south had at that time. Love the your site, by the way.

I can't imagine wearing those chains. Wow. How different from the low visibility restraints we have today. They are all restraints on freedom, yes, but combined with the humiliation of the large and cumbersome chains, I venture to guess the 1890s restraints were much more cowing.
ReplyDeletereally enjoy these oldies
