Peaceful and beautiful. I wish I were sitting in the field, in that year.
Probably doubled as the school at some time. Public school wasn't popular until the 1850' or 60s. Prior to that, church members paid a stipend for their children to attend school during the week. In particular in small settlements, there may have been only one church/school. Great picture, thanks!!
