Based on emails from readers, and comments on the blog, I am forced to face facts and admit that the first two days of Ladies' Week have failed to have their intended effect. Apparently the photographs are not causing hearts to flutter. I am getting lots of comments and emails that I did a much better job of picking out pictures of women than I am of picking out pictures of men. Never fear, we still have several days left for me to try and redeem myself. So today I have a picture of a violinist for you, as apparently bare-knuckle boxers were not doing the trick. This picture was taken in 1898. His name was Eugene Ysaye, and he was also a conductor and composer. Any Better? Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Violinist

Whoo hooooooooo! You hit the target today! A violinist!!! And a Belgian!!! And he was born a hoot and a holler from where my mom was born!!! And he taught at the University of Liege where my mom studied (briefly)! AND HE WROTE AN OPERA IN WALLOONISH!!!
ReplyDeleteMuch better choice this morning :D
ReplyDeleteI think the ladies go for the danger factor. Those other guys could never conceal weapons in their skimpy outfits. This guy could be packing all kinds of heat. He could just as well carry a Thompson machine gun in his violin case as anything else!
ReplyDeleteOh man! I just listened to two of his performances on YouTube, both recorded in 1912. Talk about HOT!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, PJM. You thrilled this girl's heart today!
Try some Oscar Wilde or Menuhin for the ladies. Or the Romanian composer George Enescu, he was quite a catch.
ReplyDeleteOh, another sure suggestion, Mihai Eminescu. See on Wikipedia.
hot hot hot
ReplyDeletend obviously intellectually deep, complex, and talented . . .
the perfect mix
If he'd lose the nasty cigar and I might agree. If he smokes those very often he'll have a nasty black build up on his teeth. Sorry, it's hard to let go of 20 years in dentistry.
ReplyDeleteToday if a man were to dress like that he'd be King-Pimp. I'd kill for a wardrobe as fly as that.
ReplyDeleteI think they are are.... ummm... UGH! Give me a cowboy anyday
ReplyDelete;)S!
I like it. And I agree with MBadragan about Georg Enescu. Phenomenal musician, conductor, composer, teacher. Handsome in his prime. I've got his symphonies on my mp3 player! 8-)
ReplyDeleteGood photo. Very snappy dresser
ReplyDeleteand great hat. The cigar makes
the image complete.
Where i live you get geat up for dressing like that.
ReplyDelete"Apparently the photographs are not causing hearts to flutter."
ReplyDeleteBecause women want men that have talent/skill, preferably famous or renowned, cultured, and snappy dressers.
Men want women... the less clothing the better.
LOL @ Bruce!! So true! :-)
ReplyDelete*still laughing at Bruce*
ReplyDeleteMuch better. Very snazzy.
Dapper! Thanks, PJM. :^)
ReplyDeletelooks like a fat dwight yoakum. Bring back the boxers!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of something like 'If Al Swearengen went to the Opera'. :p
ReplyDeleteAll he needs is some artful cussing to complete it.
All knowledge of this person aside - Yup - the bad boy image hits the target... just a bit of danger? Yes, but a violinist? hmmm sounds like he might be one of those 'troubled souls', right up there with a poet. But the look is perfect, powerful.
