Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

Is it Thor Heyerdahl?
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being the first wrong answer of the day!
The game is on!
+JMJ+
ReplyDeleteHoward Hughes??
Alfred W. Lawson
ReplyDeleteOne of them Wright brothers, eh?
ReplyDeleteIgor Sikorsky
ReplyDeleteAnd the wrong answers keep rolling in.
ReplyDeleteAnaon - you are guessing now. NO, not howard hughes or the Wright brothers . . . what, did you think I would make it easy?
Ray,
No, not Alfred Lawson
William,
ReplyDeleteNope, no one named Igor.
Wow, you guys are really doing terrible. I think maybe I have you this week.
PJM
Sergei Sikorsky. His son.
ReplyDeleteWilliam,
ReplyDeleteMy what wild and crazy guessing we have going on here. Nope, it is not Igor, his son, nor his other son.
WRONG!
PJM
Charles Linbergh
ReplyDeleteRay,
ReplyDeleteNope, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Not so easy when it is not a Civil War general, huh?
I have foiled your plans to win. I have foiled you all! Ha Haaaa Ha.
PJM
Guy Gibson? I'm having a hard time with the time period. The clothes don't match the plane.
ReplyDeleteSheila,
ReplyDeleteGood morning, and thank you for playing. Unfortunately, the person is not Guy Gibson. Also, it is not Mel Gibson if that was going to be your next guess.
PJM
Looks a bit like Curtis Willard.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, Charles Willard
ReplyDeleteMathan,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the game. Too bad your entry was incorrect.
I think I have finally stumped you all!
PJM
Mathan,
ReplyDeleteStill wrong.
PJM
Nate . . . Naaaaate . . . where are you this morning? Afraid to come out and play?
ReplyDeleteHa, you area rank amature afraid to give it a try this morning.
PJM
Billy Mitchell
ReplyDeleteOK, then, how about Glenn L. Martin?
ReplyDeleteTequila Sheila,
ReplyDeleteNope, not Billy Martin.
Lady Ann,
Nope, not Glenn Martin.
Are you not a history teacher? Should you not know this?
Ha Haaaa Ha.
PJM
Cal Rodgers
ReplyDeleteKirby,
ReplyDeleteWeldome to the game!
Wrong answer, it is not Cal Rodgers,
PJM
J.C. Mars
ReplyDeleteRay,
ReplyDeleteNope, the person i not J.C. Mars. Here is a hint. The person is not named after a planet, if that is the angle you were looking at.
PJM
Could it be German rocket scientist Werner Von Braun?
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the game. Your response is incorrect.
I have stumped you all this time!!!!
PJM
James J Ward
ReplyDeleteRay,
ReplyDeleteI laugh at your pitiful attempts and wild guesses. Once again, you are wrong.
I have finally succeeded. If no one gets it by 7:00AM Central time on Sunday, I WIN!
PJM
Tom Sopwith
ReplyDeleteWilliam,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a win in the most difficult contests ever.
Please let us know how you did it.
PJM
By surfing and stumbling across a picture of early aviators. He was a dead ringer right down to the funny looking tie. I feel great today.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations William!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it when I logged on at 9:30 and the game was still on! We just returned to the house from setting up for our town's art festival. I hustled to research, but was foiled by William's head start. My husband knew Sopwith, "from Sopwith Camel?", right off when I told him the answer. He says he thinks its the one that Snoopy flew against the Red Baron.
I was beginning to think PJM
ReplyDeletewas going to win, thanks to you
William, he didn't. Good work.
Here is the photo

Ray,
ReplyDeleteSure rub it in. I am always polite to game participants, and would appreciate the same from you. Watch it, or you might replace Nate as my nemisis.
Next week, I will prevail. Yes, I will prevail.

ReplyDeleteExcellent sleuthing William! I couldn't play today, I was going to a "disaster/civil defense" meeting. I normally refuse to go anywhere on Saturday mornings because I have to play "Mystery Person" but I thought this might be a meeting worthy of my time...and it was. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, PJM, I do teach history - Early Colonial History! BTW, do you know who was the first US president to go up in an aircraft?
ReplyDeleteAh, my guess would be Franklin Roosevelt
ReplyDeleteI believe it was his cousin, TR...
ReplyDeleteGood job William, BTW...
Oh great! I go away for a weekend, camping in the wilderness with the Boy Scouts, and I return to find that my sworn opponent has gone shopping for a new nemesis! PJM, will no 'Do a Good Turn Daily' go unpunished?
ReplyDeleteFor Lady Anne, if you teach Colonial History, I'm sensing that your question is a trick. I'm going to have to guess Thomas Jefferson in a balloon (perhaps in his trip to France).
