Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
General George B McClellan?
No, it is not General McClellan
Looks sorta like General John A Rawlins
No, Not Rowlins.
I think it may be Robert Gould Shaw but I think the beard is to long
No it is not Baily nor is it Shaw.
I'm so bad with the military people. I don't pay close enough attention to their faces when I'm reading. But this guy looks really rough. There has to be a clue in that......grrr
Winfield Scott Hancock?
Major General Lewis Wallace
No, not W.S. Hancock
Yes, DonnaB got it. . . . General Lew Wallace was in the Civil War, went on to be governor of New Mexico, and then finally is remembered for Writing the epic "Ben Hur".
Good job Paula!!!
Wow! First time I managed to get in before the person was already identified. I enjoy your site!
Don't you find it rather odd that a General would pose for a photo with his buttons open?
Possibly Rutherford B. Hayes?
Napoleons habit of laying his hand into his jacket was all the rage among Northern Generals. I can't remember seeing it amongst the Southern Generals though.
He looks very young to be a general.
