Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

I'm guessing George Crook.
ReplyDeleteNEWS ALERT!
ReplyDeleteNATE MAAS WILL BE BANNED FROM FUTURE MYSTERY PERSON CONSTESTS DUE TO SUPERIOR INTELECT NOT GIVING OTHERS A FAIR CHANCE!
Just kidding.
Yes, Nate, it is General Crook. You won bot contests today.
Rest assured, next weeks contest will be harder. I am already formulating a strategy to stump you all.

Chuck Connors, the actor from the TV show "The Rifleman", in a civil war costume. Did I get it? Did I get it?
ReplyDeleteActually, I have been enjoying this forum for a long time and this is my first post. I have never been able to guess the mytery person.
Ha! You know what's really stupid, I often times have trouble recalling a student's name, but I have little trouble recognizing people from books I've read - go figure.
ReplyDeleteActually, I have a cold that kept me awake last night, so it was one of the few days that I was up when you other time zone people are up.
If you ever have trouble finding people, I'm happy to send you "reader submitted mystery people."
I love the civil war, but these military guys all look the same to me. I think it's the whiskers!
ReplyDeleteWill,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the contest. Actually he does look a lot like the rifleman, doesnt he? Anyway, hope you continue to post comments.

ARGGGGG!
ReplyDeleteI love trying to figure these out but when I wake up here in Alaska at 6 am and both the mystery person and the bonus have been figured out I never have a shot at winning. OF course with Nate answering them in no time at all doesn't help me? (just kidding really just envious)
Will we ever see the evening edition of Mystery Person???
I love the site and I want to say thanks for all your efforts PJM to keep it going.
I agree with SmartGirl, I think I have a hard time with the Civil War people because they look alike. Maybe I'm focusing too much on the facial hair. Congrats Nate. Now I must do my Saturday ritual of going and researching the mystery person.
ReplyDeleteSheila, I like Civil War and Indian history. When I teach about the Indian Wars, there is so much negative that it just seems like we did a terrible job living up to our ideals. George Crook was one of the really honorable Americans in this dark time. It's sad that more people haven't heard about him. I have my students read this piece about George Crook, maybe you'll like it too: http://www.historynet.com/george-crook-indian-fighter.htm/print
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Thank you so much Nate.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I always get in on this too late, I do enjoy the Mystery Person game.
ReplyDeleteI hate working on Saturdays. I always miss the Mystery Person thread, and I actually knew this one! (for once)
ReplyDelete/Love the site, PJM!
Enjoying the photographs and historical information so much. Love your Mystery Person contests too.
