This picture was taken in the early 1900's and shows a woman in he kitchen cooking. The stove looks to be a very early version of an electric stove. It has the shape and form of an old wood stove, but you can see that it is plugged into the wall. It looks as if it could even be a wood stove converted to electricity. It is amazing how much the kitchen has changed in the last 100 years.Monday, December 22, 2008

It says right on the front of the oven "GAS RANGE". The stove top handles are gas valve handles. Kitchens and cooks have truly changed.
ReplyDeleteSorry, "Gas Range"
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the electrical cord is for a light above the gas range-top.
ReplyDeleteFollowing on from Brother
ReplyDeleteDave's idea.
I was thinking of the cable
leading from left to right.
Maybe the socket is behind
the cooker, leading to an
appliance off to the left
of the picture.
It looks like she is opening the microwave. :-)
ReplyDeleteDidn't these old stoves sometimes have an electric warming pot in them - along the same idea as a crockpot? Seems like my grandmother had something like that. She also had one of those old wringer washing machines. I loved watching her use it.
ReplyDeleteThat's what my kitchen still looks like!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so old, it's cute now.
