Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
About this site:
I have been an avid collector of old photographs and documents for over 30 years. The photographs on this site are derived from material I have collected over the years. Some came from old family albums, some from material I bought at flea markets over the years, and some from government archives of public domain images, including the US Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We appreciate you visiting this blog, and hope you find it interesting.

No disrespect intended but it also makes you wonder how they were able to afford a camera or did an acquaintance take a family picture for them. How our generation will hopefully never know the hardships involved with such a time.
ReplyDeleteIf you will note, the lady on the left appears to be Pregnat, I am thinking that the two older adults are her parents and the children are the siblings and children of the younger woman.. this is family taking care of family.. even in HARD Times..
ReplyDeletethanking you and Keep your Heart and Tracks Happy. nanny
pattylouPutting it as delicately as possible, the large number of kids is due to the fact that making them was the only recreation the parents had and probably the only thing they could have any control over in such terrible times.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping the steps taken by the government in the last few weeks will forestal another depression of this size and depth. There are some indicators that look good; I just hope they hold and the market can settle down some more.
Just a comment on two comments. First, birth control was not widely acceptable until the 1960s or thereabouts, so cut the folks a little bit of a break there. Some couples had active sex lives yet didn't conceive more than one or two children. Second, there was a government funded photography project, which I assumed right away was the source of the photo. The government spent loads of money documenting how poor Americans were, when they could have just fed them or created other jobs. Typical bureaucracy.
ReplyDeletegood for you Norkio, Couples married and stayed together even in tough times, it was forever, and Family's were close , taking care of each other. lets look at the Fat Cats, this is more than likely a share cropper's Family photo.
