Indian Chief

This photograph was taken in 1908 by Edward Curtis. It shows an Indian Chief named White Shield. I love the work Edward Curtis did in capturing these images of Native Americans.

  2. Edward Curtis was born in my city, Whitewater, Wi. A couple of years ago, we had an Edward Curtis exhibit at UW- Whitewater sponsored in part by the Whitewater Arts Alliance. We also have a permanent exhibit in our city.

  3. I appreciate Edward Curtis's photography as compilations of great 'photographic' elements; however, I disagree with his claimed accurate representation of culture. Although his photos are beautiful, they do not represent Native Americans as they were in any stage of history.
