Crimean War

This photograph was taken in 1855 and shows soldiers in the Crimean War. The Crimean War was fought between 1853 and 1856. The fight was between Russia, and an alliance of France, Britain, Sardinia, and the Ottoman Empire. Most of the conflict took place around Turkey and the Baltic Sea. The conflict can be traced to disagreements over authority over the Holy Lands.

  1. It always amazes me how long those lands have been fought over. If it was not a religous war, there would not have been much to fight over as the land is basically desert and not suited for much to support humans.

I hope we can get out of the middle east in the next 2-3 years

  2. Wow! Nearly as far back as we can look with photography. Thanks muchly!

Was this taken with an odd lens, or is there an issue with the file? Look at the left man's leg and the right man's sword. Both seem outsized.
