This photograph was taken in 1865 in Richmond, shortly after that city fell to Union forces. The picture shows a Richmond business engaged in the Slave Trade. The sign on the building reads, "Price, Birch, and Co. Dealers in Slaves." The building appears to be occupied by Union troops. It is hard to imagine that such business establishments existed in this country.Thursday, May 22, 2008
