I have a log-book entry listing my breat, great grandfather as a drummerboy when he was 9. Amazing stuff.
ReplyDeleteI could not have done it!!
ReplyDeleteDid they shoot at these drummerboys on either side intentionally?
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting question. I am sure many were injured because of the general nature of the fire. I have heard of very young soldiers killing enemy soldiers, but have not read of children in CW being deliberately targeted.
ReplyDeleteIt was against the "rules" to shoot at drummer boys, but civil war guns were notoriously hard to aim.
ReplyDeleteWow. I could never have been a drummer boy.
ReplyDeleteOne of my relatives was a drummer boy. Robert Henry Hendershot
