President Abraham Lincoln

This is a great portrait of Abraham Lincoln. The president surprised his cabinet on this day (July 22) in 1862 by revealing to them a first draft he had written of the Emancipation Proclamation.

  1. My niece spent time in D.C. studying the Lincoln administration papers. Old photos are fascinating and rich in history. Thanks for sharing!

  4. WJB,
Thanks for the post. It is amazing what quality photographs were made in the 1860's. I think the quality of photography gradually went down in the decades following the 1860's as people moved to simpler (but lower quality) photographic platforms.
